Land Track

The Land Track focuses on Arctic Geoengineering and the courses are offered by DTU and NTNU.

The track gives the graduates a comprehensive overview of the different aspects related to designing and operating Arctic infrastructure and a solid understanding of the mechanics of soil, concrete and rocks.

The Land Track covers both the basic knowledge within Civil Engineering as well as practical applications in Arctic infrastructure.

During this track, the students will spend 1-3 semesters in an Arctic environment in Greenland (DTU campus Sisimiut) and/or Svalbard (UNIS) and participate in Arctic field work.

 

Special Knowledge of Design and Operation of Arctic Infrastructure

Graduates from the Land Track will have acquired special knowledge related to the design and operation of Arctic Infrastructure such as roads, harbours, runways, mines and tunnels and will be able to:

  • Design foundations and infrastructure constructions, taking into account permafrost, erosion and rocks, as well as extreme loads from e.g. strong wind or snow.
  • Work with planning in sparsely populated areas with limited infrastructure.
  • Carry out and manage infrastructure projects including logistics in Arctic areas.


Which Degree Will I Get?

The Cold Climate Engineering programme is a so-called double degree programme. When you finish the Nordic Master in Cold Climate Engineering you will receive a degree from both universities you have attended during your master’s programme.

You will receive a degree diploma with the progamme name: Nordic Master in Cold Climate Engineering with the following double degree title: 

DTU: Master of Science in Civil Engineering
NTNU: Master of Science in Cold Climate Engineering

 

Career Prospects

Graduates from the Land Track are expected to find work in consulting, design and construction companies, the mining industry, oil companies, governmental bodies, research institutes and universities, which have activities related to Arctic infrastructure.

The graduates will have extensive experience of working in the field in Arctic locations.
